Abilene Insurance, a family business since 1984, in known for it's qualify service and integrity.  Left to right are the company's family management team, daughter, Denise Yarbro Oliver, Mother, Donna K. Yarbro, and son-in-law, Les Oliver.

Donna K. Yarbro, owner of Abilene Insurance Agency, got her start in the insurance business in 1965, filing Workman's Compensation claims and answering the phone. Insurance was a natural for the single mother, and she soon took on other jobs in the office, until she was in effect responsible for most of the agency's operations.

Then in 1984, she stepped out on her own, opening an agency with only her paycheck and a contingent of insurance companies who believed in her so strongly that they "planted" with her—allowing her to offer their insurance to her customers.

Donna was Abilene's only female sole proprietor independent insurance agent.

As Yarbro Insurance Agency grew, finding qualified help was easy for Donna, since her daughters Dani and Denise had both worked for her since their teens and liked the work. First Dani came to work for her, but later left to start a Farmers Insurance agency. Then in 1988, Denise came into the business, and it remained a solely woman-run agency until 1997, when Denise’s husband, Les Oliver, joined the agency.
Donna's son, Dean, is a radiologist in Las Vegas.

As the company grew, Donna changed the name to Abilene Insurance Agency in order to better reflect the scope of the business. Early on, oil industry insurance was a staple of her business, but as time went by, Donna began to look for niche markets. Now Abilene Insurance Agency writes transportation insurance for trucks, wreckers, dump trucks, etc. throughout Texas. We specialize in most contractors, and most commercial insurance.

Both Donna and Denise are active in the Abilene Association of Independent Insurance Agents, where Denise has served as president and Donna as vice president.
"Abilene Insurance Agency has changed with the times and will continue to change," Donna says, with two important exceptions: "This will remain a family business, and we will continue to keep our customers' best interest always at the forefront."
"Currently, we are putting a special emphasis on auto repair shops and tow packages for wrecker services."
